ClevelandHospital: The Cleveland Regional Medical Center remains open to emergency room patients only. Representatives of the north Liberty County hospital have told Cleveland City Officials they plan to keep the ER open and have resumed allowing ambulances to bring patients there. Beyond that, no more information is available about future plans of the medical facility. The Liberty County Tax Office reports the embattled hospital owes more than $500,000 in back property taxes.

TVE Cattleman’s Ball: The 9thAnnual TVE Cattleman’s Ball, which includes the Western Heritage Award presentation, is a week from tomorrow – that’s Saturday, March 1, in the Dayton Community Center. TVE Board member Donnie Smith said the annual event, which raises money for student scholarships, begins at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour followed by dinner catered by Bubba and Betty Haidusek. Tickets are $100 each. Those tickets are available at the TVE office on the fairgrounds on FM 563 in Liberty, Cowboy Cleaners in Liberty and Dayton, or from any TVE board member. St. Stephen’s Recital: This Sunday afternoon, St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Liberty is hosting Sonja Bruzauskas, internationally known opera singer. The German born Mezzo Soprano has performed in some of the worlds most famous opera houses. She will be accompanied on piano by University of Houston Assistant Professor of Keyboard, Tali Morgulis. Ms. Bruzauskas will perform selections from Composers Johannes Brahms and Robert and Clara Schumann. Everyone is welcome. The event begins at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Pond Seminar: Today is the last day to register for next Tuesday’s Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service multi-county Pond Management Seminar. It will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Winnie-Stowell Community Building. A $20 program fee will be accepted at the door but pre-registration is required by close of business today.
