Train Fire: An Amtrak passenger train made an unscheduled stop in Liberty Saturday around 5:45 p.m. because of an onboard fire. Liberty Fire Capt. Brad Taylor said a refrigerator compressor in the kitchen car caught fire. The train’s crew extinguished the blaze before Liberty firemen arrived, but they did clear the car of smoke. Power was also shut off to the compressor. The Amtrak train then proceeded to its destination in San Antonio.

Bridgehaven Auction: The Bridgehaven Radio Auction here on KSHN Radio last Thursday and again Saturday morning has been hailed a big success, thanks to area residents and merchants who donated or bid on items. The two-day event was made all the more successful by Saturday morning’s announcement that Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett will once again match the proceeds from that auction. Monies for the match come from the district attorney’s Crime Proceeds Seizure Fund. Last year, thanks to that match and the auction, Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center raised more than $18,000. Final numbers have not yet been announced for this year, but organizers said the radio auction was once again a success.
