Transfer Letter: Parents of students at 7 school campuses in Liberty County will soon receive notification their kids have the option of transferring to other schools under the Texas Public Education Grant Program. The state program allows students to transfer from lower performing campuses to a higher performing school. On that list of lower performing campuses is Liberty Middle School in the Liberty School District. In the Dayton district, Kimmie Brown Elementary as well as Nottingham Middle school are on the list. Devers Elementary students will also be notified of the option to transfer to a campus with a higher performance rating. In Cleveland ISD, Northside Elementary School was rated as improvement required. Tarkington High School scored academically unacceptable and students there will be given transfer option. Finally, Hull-Daisetta Elementary was also listed as an improvement required campus. Those seven campuses in Liberty County are required to send out letters by February 1, notifying parents their students are eligible, under state guidelines to transfer to a higher performing campus.

Prosperity Tops the List: In their recent listing of the top large banks for 2014, Forbes Magazine, called by some the premier source for business news and financial information, listed Texas based Prosperity Bank as the best in the country. Prosperity Bank is based out of Houston, with three locations in Liberty Co.

Go-Texan Dance: The Liberty County Metro Go Texan Kick-Off Dance is Saturday February 8that the TVE Expo Hall. This is one of the Go Texan Committee’s biggest yearly fundraisers and all proceeds benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Fund. This year’s featured performer is Jake Hooker and the Outsiders. Advance tickets are $15 available at PESCO in Liberty and at Dayton Farm and Ranch Supply. Closed for MLKDay: All municipal offices in the cities of; Cleveland, Dayton and Liberty will be closed Monday. This is a national holiday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. The Liberty County Courthouse is also closed for the holiday. Banks and post offices will be closed. However, Waste Management Garbage service will run as scheduled.
