Injured Child: Kenefick Vol. Fire Chief Darryl McWhorter said a 4-year-old girl was taken by Life Flight Air Ambulance to a Houston hospital for severe burns suffered to her lap area after spilling a bowl of hot soup. The incident happened around 5:30 Wednesday evening at a home on CR 642 in the Kenefick area. The child’s condition is unknown.

Families Fun Day: Families of elementary-age students in Liberty, Hardin, Hull-Daisetta and Barbers Hill are invited to a free Families Fun Day at their respective school districts on January 25. Karen Anzak, a master trainer with the group Active Family Relationships, said it’s a full day of events that includes activities where families will learn to strengthen bonds, improve communications and discover personal strengths. DISD Hall of Fame: Nominations are being accepted for the Dayton ISD “Wall of Fame”. The deadline for nominating a former professional employee of the Dayton School district is February 3. MLK Celebration: The 16thAnnual Liberty County Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is Saturday January 18. It will be held at 1 p.m. in Trinity Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. This year’s celebration will be dedicated to the late Roger Braxton Sr., Dr. Henry Dugat Sr., chairman of the Liberty County Celebration Committee, said this year’s theme is “A Foundation Laid by a Dream”.
