Public Hearing: Liberty County Commissioners held a public hearing yesterday on the creation of, what’s called, a County Energy Transportation Reinvestment Zone. Commissioner Mike McCarty said money for the grant funding comes from energy-related companies to help counties rebuild roads damaged by those businesses. Because Liberty County is considered economically disadvantaged, it must provide a 10% match if approved for funding. Liberty County Judge Craig McNair said the public hearing is the first step required by the state to be eligible for grant funding.
