Volume 28, No. 248 Monday, December 30, 2013

Fatal Shooting: Friday afternoon, a domestic verbal argument between Julie Wilkey and her husband, Flint, ended with the death of a 35-year-old Tanner Settlement man. According to the Sheriffs Department, Julie Wilkey had left the couples home during the argument and gone next door to her father in-law, Billy Wilkey, to avoid further trouble. Witnesses told investigators, the son, Flint, followed her next door into his father’s home, and physically assaulted his wife. He then pulled his wife from the house and tried to get her into his truck. The woman struggled, trying to protect her self from her husbands attack. Information indicates it was at that point the father, 67-year-old Billy Wilkey attempted to stop his son. When Flint Wilkey turned on his father, Billy Wilkey fired one shot from a 9MM handgun, killing his son. According to investigators their case will be referred to the grand jury with no charges filed for now. JP #3 Cody Parrish ruled the shooting self defense.
