Daniel House Burglary: As the investigation into the December 13, burglary at the Jean and Price Daniel house on the grounds of the Sam Houston Center continues, donations from, local citizens has doubled the reward being offered. The reward offered, now is $2,000. More then 100 items were stolen from the two-story replica of the Texas Governor’s Mansion on FM 1011 in Liberty.  Liberty Police Detective Lt. Chip Fairchild said while they have received tips regarding security camera footage of a person of interest, to date those leads have not panned out. Anyone with information is asked to contact Liberty Police at (936) 336 5666.

High Speed Chase: The Liberty County Sheriffs Dept., along with Liberty PD, and Texas DPS, were all involved in a high speed chase around 7:30 Christmas night. According to Sheriffs Capt. Ken Defoor, Deputy Michael Nugent was called to a family disturbance on FM 563. When he arrived, a pick-up truck left through the front yard, and then through a ditch before heading north towards Hwy. 90.  With speeds reaching 90 MPH, the Liberty PD successfully deployed a “stop stick”.  Even with the flat tire, the driver continued his high speed attempt to evade police. When the vehicle finally came to a stop due to damage, the driver, identified as Edgar Earl Taylor refused to exit the truck.  Finally, officers broke out a window and forced the man out. Inside the truck was found a loaded rifle, two unloaded shotguns, and a packed of what later tested to be Methamphetamine. Edgar Taylor, age 40, was jailed, charged with violation of a temporary restraining order. He was also charged with illegal drug possession with other charges pending.

Singing Aggies: The world renowned Texas A&M Singing Cadets, the male choral group from Texas A & M University are coming to Liberty.  On Monday January 6ththe world famous Singing Cadets will be in concert at the First Baptist Church in Liberty at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Liberty Dayton Chrysler, Liberty Medical Surgical Clinic, Sterling Realty, Leslie Herndon’s Edward Jones office on Main St. in Dayton, and at Chachere Vet Clinic on FM 1960, also in Dayton.
