LISD Audit: Liberty Independent School District trustees were presented with the 2012-2013 annual fiscal year audit Tuesday by Deborah Kirkham. She is with the accounting firm Hereford, Lynch, Sellars and Kirkham. The auditor provided the district with what is now called an unmodified opinion, meaning the district’s records are complete and include accurate disclosures that comply with standard accounting practices and procedures.

Daniel House Contents: Liberty Police are asking for the public’s help with their investigation into last Friday’s burglary at the Jean and Price Daniel House on the grounds of the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. Police are asking anyone who has taken photos of the interior displays inside the replica of the Texas Governor’s mansion to contact them. Police would like to use those pictures as part of their investigation of the recent burglary. If you have photos, contact the Liberty Police at (936) 336 5666. Your photos will be returned to you, but your help will be appreciated.

Fraudulent Tax Returns: Liberty Certified Public Accountant Bryon Swaim said fraudulent tax returns have cost the tax payers between $20 and $200 billion dollars. That, he said, is according to the Internal Revenue Service, and even they don’t have a grasp on a good dollar amount to report. CPA Swaim said if you are the victim of IRS Tax Return fraud, you can get help in walking through the process. As always, when dealing with your own personal taxes, speak with a professional you trust.

Closed for Christmas: Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year and the Liberty County Courthouse will be closed this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, which is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. All city offices in Liberty and Dayton will also close on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Cleveland, they will close city offices early, Monday at 2:30 and remain closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Banks and post offices will be closed on Christmas Day only, although some may have early closings on Tuesday. Waste Management Garbage Service will not run on Wednesday, Christmas Day. All offices will resume regular hours on Thursday December 26th.
