Alcohol Ordinance: Tuesday night the Liberty City Council amended the city’s alcoholic beverage ordinance to allow extended hours of service. With the appropriate permits from TABC, restaurants and bars can now serve alcoholic beverages until 2 a.m. daily. Serving hours are Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sundays from noon to 2 a.m. Places that serve food can begin serving Sundays at 10 a.m.


Extended Filing: The last minute withdrawal of Congressional District 36 Incumbent Steve Stockman from the Republican Primary race sets into motion an extended filing period. According to the Austin office of the Republican Party of Texas, the extended filing period runs today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday December 16. Candidates can file for a spot on the March Republican Party Primary for congressional district 36 in Austin or by mail.


Help with ACA: Those confused about health care reform will have a chance to talk with certified health care marketplace experts for free help in understanding enrollment. The Cognosante Group will have highly trained health insurance assistors at the Liberty Municipal Library on Friday December 20thfrom 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Christmas Under the Stars: The 7thannual Christmas under the Stars is this weekend, Friday-Sunday at 6 p.m. nightly. It’s all free, a gift from North Main Baptist Church to you and your family. Activities get under way nightly at 6 and culminate with fireworks around 8:55. Just look for the large star atop the tall flag pole on far North Main St. in Liberty.


Blackout: Another reminder – the City of Liberty will be turning off electrical power citywide this Saturday night so the new Substation can be brought on line. The power will be off throughout the city from 11 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday. Anyone with special needs, such as dependence on medical equipment that runs on electricity, should contact city hall as soon as possible during business hours (936) 336 3684.
