DaytonCityCouncil: Dayton City Council Monday night approved spending $26,000 on rebuilding the sewer lift station on E. Luke Street. City Manager David Douglas said the money for the project comes from unspent bond funds used a few years ago in an upgrade to the sewer treatment plant. Council also went into executive session to discuss the city manager’s position. Council came back into open session to unanimously approve a motion by John Johnson saying they had complete confidence in City Manager David Douglas.


Christmas Mailing Deadline: U.S. Postal Service mailing deadlines for pre-Christmas delivery is fast approaching. Next Tuesday, December 10, is the last day to send packages by priority mail to most military addresses worldwide. That’s also the deadline to get cards and letters to military destinations by Christmas via First Class Mail. Express mail delivery in time for Christmas is Tuesday, December 17th.


Angel Trees: The City of Liberty Fire Department is hosting the “Angel Tree Program” and this year, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is teaming up for the effort. At the fire department on Lakeland and the Sheriffs office on Beaumont Ave. both in Liberty, are Angel trees with the name and Christmas wish list of an economically disadvantaged local child. Pick up an Angel, get the gifts they asked for, and return the gift and angel both back at the FD or Sheriffs office. Be sure the gift remains unwrapped. Santa’s helpers will wrap the gift and be sure the correct gift goes to the correct child. Santa along with the Liberty FD and the Sheriffs Office will deliver the presents on Dec. 23.


Handel’s Messiah: The congregation of 1stBaptist Church in Liberty will present “Handel’s Messiah” A sing-along worship experience on Thursday December 19that 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. If you’d like to participate in the chorus, email Rick Brady at Richard@thebradyfirm.comand include which part – soprano, alto, tenor or bass, you would like to sing.
