Country Christmas: The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Country Christmas Celebration is tomorrow in Liberty and Thursday in Dayton. Country Christmas is free to everyone. Both events include a lighted parade around 6 p.m. followed by refreshments, pictures with Santa, wagon rides and live entertainment. Tomorrow’s Country Christmas after parade events take place in the Liberty Center and on the grounds of Liberty City Hall. Thursday’s festivities in Dayton after the parade will be held at First Baptist Church. For more information or to enter either or both parades, call the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber at 936-336-5736.

Proposed Annexation: City of Liberty staff is moving ahead with a proposed annexation plan that would include annexing property that takes in the Moss Bluff Gas Storage facility. Liberty City Council gave initial approval of the plan back in September. Liberty Public Works Director Tom Warner said the plan is not set in stone and will require Liberty City Council to approve additional details. The proposed annexation would take in a 1,010 foot strip encompassing both sides of the Trinity River and moving southeast of the present city limits. The plan does not include properties or homes on FM 563. No home sites are included. The unusual shape of the proposed annexation is to give the city access to a potential deep-water port for future industrial use and to incorporate the multi-million dollar gas storage facility into the city’s tax base.

Medicare Enrolment: The open enrollment period for Medicare Part D prescription coverage and the Medicare Advantage plan coverage ends this coming Saturday. Idolina Gonzales, with the Beaumont office of Social Security, said those who have not yet enrolled as well as those needing to make changes or additions should take advantage of open enrollment.
