DaytonCityCouncil: The Dayton City Council met Monday night and heard a report from Dayton Community Development Corporation Executive Director Courtland Holman on a request by the LibertyDaytonRegionalMedicalCenterinviting the D.C.D.C. along with the Liberty Community Development Corporation to participate in a needs feasibility study.  D.C.D.C. Director Holman advised the Dayton Council against supporting the feasibility study in its current form. He said the proposed study was too narrowly focused, and it should include examining where a hospital facility should be located. Dayton Council agreed, and authorized City Manager David Douglas to meet with Hospital District President Bruce Stratton about making the hospital location data a part of the feasibility study.


More Republicans: Dwayne Stovall, of Tarkington, has announced he will be a candidate for U.S. Senate in the March 4thRepublican Primary Election running against John Cornyn. District 18 State Rep. John Otto has drawn a GOP primary opponent in Coldspring Chemical Engineer and Baptist Pastor Terry Holcomb. He has filed to run against Otto in next year’s political party primary. Filing for both the Republican and Democrat party primary continues through December 9th.


VB: Eight Tarkington Lady Longhorns and their coach have been named to the All District 22-3A Volleyball Team. They are joined by six Liberty Lady Panthers and two Clevelandgirls. The Lady Longhorns won district and then advanced to the regional semifinals. The Lady Panthers advanced to the Area round in the state playoffs. Tarkington Coach Denise Johnson was selected by her peers as District 22-3A Coach of the Year.


Social Security: The Social Security Administration is adding new online services. The latest is a mobile app to download a Spanish language version of the social security web site to smart phones. Idolina Gonzales of the Beaumont Office of Social Security said this is good news for benefit recipients who are more comfortable with Spanish than English.
