Assault: LibertyCountySheriff’s Capt. Ken DeFoor said it was around 11 a.m.Thursday when 22-year-old Michael Denvy of Libertywas allegedly assaulted by at least one suspect just north of Hwy 90 on FM 160 in Ames. Captain DeFoor said the victim apparently was beaten with an axe handle, suffering severe facial lacerations. Michael Denvy told investigators he was attacked by a carjacker, but Sgt. Investigator Billy Knox determined that is not true. It appears the assault was over a drug deal, but no further details are available.


Dayton Superintendent Finalist: The Daytonschool board met in a special called meeting Tuesday night and named lifelong resident of Dayton, Dr. Jessica Johnson as the lone finalist for the job of Dayton Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Johnson is currently serving as executive director of personnel services for Sheldon ISD. School Board President Dr. Luke Chachere said the board must now wait 21 days before they formally vote to hire Dr. Johnson. The vote is set for October 15th.
