Commissioners Court: LibertyCountyCommissioners voted yesterday to change the health insurance plan for county retirees. The new program moves the retirees to the Signa Medicare Advantage Plan. This move should, according to County Treasurer Kim Harris, improve benefits for retirees as well as save the county some $300,000 per year. In other action, commissioners approved the sale of 28 surplus and salvage vehicles from both the Liberty County Sheriffs Department and Constable Precinct 4. Money raised from that sale will go back into those respective departments and can be used to purchase new patrol vehicles.


Drive One for DaytonHigh: This Saturday, BJ Ford is hosting another “Ford Drive One for Your School” fundraiser from 9 5 DaytonHigh School. Robert Dunn, BJ Ford Co-owner said Ford Motor Company will donate up to $6,000 to Dayton High’s Project Graduation 2014 based on the number of people who take a test drive in a new Ford Vehicle.


Texas City: You may recall former Liberty School Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lusignolo was hired as superintendent for the Texas Cityschool district last June. Now, LISD’s Chief Financial Officer Margaret Lee has been hired as the new Texas City ISD assistant superintendent of business and operations. Margaret Lee is a Certified Public Accountant and is a Registered Texas School Business Administrator through the Texas Association of School Business Officials. She will assume her new duties Oct. 13thbut will also help with trustees find her replacement here.


5K Run: The second annual Liberty Fire Department 5K run and walk is this Saturday morning at the LibertyMunicipalPark. Hosted by the Liberty Fire Department, the event benefits the Libertydepartment’s unpaid volunteer firefighters with essential equipment and training. The run starts at 9 a.m.and those who have not registered, are asked to arrive about 8:30 a.m.Cost is $30. For more information call the Liberty Fire Department’s non-emergency number. Concert Dance: Tickets are available at the TVE Fair office, both FLNB Banks, Security State Bank, Baskins in Liberty and Cowboy Cleaners, for the October 12thTVE Concert Dance featuring Cody Johnson. Tickets are $15 in advance.
