LISD Tax Election: Liberty school district will hold a Tax Ratification Election on Saturday, October 12. To capture additional state funds, Liberty school trustees are asking voters to approve a two-cent increase in the maintenance and operations tax rate. In return, the board already approved a reduction of the debt service tax rate. So, if voters approve the proposed change, the overall tax rate would actually decrease slightly. The total property taxes for 2012-13 are $1.1711 per $100 valuation. The new tax rate would be $1.1686. That change would generate about $331,000 in new money from local and state coffers for the M&O side of the district’s budget. Those dollars would be used to give Liberty school district staff a one-time payment that is the equivalent of about a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment.
