Voter ID: Texas voters may or may not be required to show an ID when casting a ballot in the upcoming March primaries. As it stands now, a registered voter will be required to show an approved form of personal identification. There are some exceptions for those age 65 and older or those with disabilities. The Texas Voter ID law is in effect, but it is being challenged in court and that could change requirements before March. Stay tuned to KSHN Radio for the latest as the election draws near.

Hay Show: An important deadline is tomorrow in conjunction with the Liberty County Hay Show set for October 8 at Liberty Church of Christ. Participants have the option to submit hay samples for testing to compete in the show. All samples will get a complete analysis, which includes percent crude protein, digestible protein, fiber and more. Hay samples will be accepted through tomorrow at eight locations. There is a $5 fee for each sample submitted. For more info on submitting hay samples, call the Liberty County Extension Service at 936-334-3230.

Gatorfest: The always popular Texas Gatorfest is this Thursday through Sunday in Fort Anahuac Park. It’s once again a four-day event with lots of live musical entertainment each day. Gates open Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. Then, Saturday’s activities get under way at 10 a.m. Gates open Sunday at noon. As always, there’s carnival rides, lots of food and merchandise vendors, airboat rides in the marsh, an alligator education tent, plus the premiere event – the great Texas Alligator Roundup.

Football: The Dayton Broncos are now 1-1 after beating the Livingston Lions 24-6 on Friday night. The 0-2 Liberty Panthers tested the No. 1 state-ranked Newton Eagles. The Panthers led 10-0 at halftime before the Eagles rallied to win 28-17. The Hardin Hornets are still undefeated after a 32-18 win over Tarkington. In other action, it was Kountze 35 – Hull-Daisetta 21. Madisonville topped Cleveland 34-7. Barbers Hill rolled past Lumberton 44-6 while Hamshire-Fannett beat Anahuac 42-20.
