Chief Selection: There have been several news reports on the selection of long time Dayton Police Officer John Headrick as the new police chief for that LibertyCountytown following the retirement of Pete Douzat. A selection committee was to come up with 5 finalists for city council – the committee’s effort was apparently not considered and the choices came down to two veteran Daytonofficers. Dayton City Manager David Douglas emphasized the vote by council was unanimous in favor of John Headrick to be the new Dayton Police Chief. The Dayton City Manager did not comment on the committee’s efforts.


CASAClay Shoot: Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA of Liberty and Chambers Counties are holding a sporting clays fundraiser this Saturday at Clay Mound Shooting Center between Liberty and Dayton. CASA is a non-profit organization that provides trained, court-appointed volunteers to serve as advocates for children in the foster care system. Dorothy’s Birthday Bash: The public is invited to celebrate Life Share Blood Center’s local coordinator Dorothy Nettles’ 80thbirthday at a special blood drive tomorrow. The big event is from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Dayton. Mail Box Posts: The Texas Department of Transportation will be installing new mail box posts to several areas in Liberty County. Early reports from TX Dot said they would be installing new mail boxes, however, a recent clarification from TX Dot says only the bases will be new.
