Fatality Wreck: Mont Belvieu Police Chief Virgil Blasdel said the woman killed in an early Tuesday morning wreck on Hwy. 146 was 30-year-old Christine Nicole Groome of Baytown. Chief Blasdel said Ms. Groome was a back seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Roy Joseph TeVay of Liberty. For as yet unknown reasons, the vehicle left the road, struck a culvert, flipped end over end before rolling back onto the highway. Investigators say all six people inside the vehicle, three adults and three children, were ejected. At last report, the driver is said to be in stable condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital as is another adult passenger, Tiffany Johnson of Dayton. Tiffany Johnson’s children ages, 3, 5 and the 7 year old child of Christine Groome, are said to be in serious to critical condition at the Houston hospital. None of the six victims were wearing seatbelts. The accident remains under investigation.

Hwy 90: We have already reported the Texas Department of Transportation announced funding for the widening of U.S. 90 to four lanes from Devers to almost the JeffersonCountyline has been made available. According to TxDot’s Sara Dupre the contract for construction was awarded to APACConstruction in June and work is expected to begin in September. She said the results of some environmental studies are still needed. Sarah Dupre said there is no estimated completion date due to unpredictable weather. Cost is expected to be over $26.6 million.

Insurance and Storms: Changes in the insurance industry means you should have your insurance in place well before a named storm enters or forms in the Gulf of Mexico. Daytoninsurance agent Stephen Skarpa said when a storm crosses a designated line, some insurance carriers can no longer write coverage. If you need to update or upgrade your property insurance, now would be the time to start.
