Bank Burglarized: The Hull State Bank main office in Hull on FM 834 was burglarized in the early morning hours of Wednesday. Liberty County Sheriff’s Department reports they were notified of a burglar alarm at the bank around 5 a.m. Wednesday.  Most of the action by those who broke into the bank seems to be in the drive through window area. No word on losses, but the bank opened to customers with only the drive through area closed as the investigation continued. Both the FBI and the Liberty County Sheriffs Department are investigating.


Hit and Run Suspect: Reliable sources indicate a Baytown woman identified as Bobbie Jo Arnold has told investigators she was the driver who struck and killed bicyclist Mickel Wayne Peeler Tuesday morning. The 51-year-old man was found dead in a ditch on FM 1409. So far, no charges have been filed.     


2ndLISD Trustee Election: Early voting for the 2ndLiberty School Board Election has ended with 285 ballots cast. The May 11thelection resulted in a 196 to 196 vote tie between June Jackson and Jeffery Smart. Election Day voting this Saturday will be at the same three polling locations as in May. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Liberty Center at City hall, Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames and at Bethel Assembly of God Church on FM 563 South of Liberty.  If you have questions about which of those locations where you vote, call the Liberty County Clerk’s office at (936) 336 4670.


Correction: Allison Meche was awarded a $2,500 Good Citizen Scholarship from the Libertad Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. KSHN had originally been given another amount.


Convicted Killer: Cris Badall, convicted in the 2004 murder of Ram Durgapursad at Frank’s Tire Shop in Liberty, was back in court Monday for a hearing on a motion filed alleging he had ineffective counsel at his trial. In his motion, he is requesting his conviction and sentence be set aside because his defense council failed to adequately represent him at his murder trial.
