Ranger Huff: Texas Ranger Sgt. Frank Huff of Hardin has been promoted to lieutenant. Effective June 1, Ranger Huff will be assigned to Huntsville as one of two supervising lieutenants for Company A. That’s one of six Texas Ranger companies across the state, covering 37 counties across Southeast and East Texas.


TVE Scholarships: Trinity Valley Exposition has designated  $25,000 in scholarships to 17 graduating seniors from Liberty and Chambers Counties. A $4,000 TVE Award of Excellence Scholarship was awarded to Mackenzie Beasley of Liberty and to Donald R. Dodson III of Barbers Hill. A $2,000 Citizenship Scholarship was awarded to Rhett Wilson from Barbers Hill and Leighton Chachere from Dayton.  A $1,000 TVE Participation Scholarship went to Ethan Cole Worthy, and Stephen Blake Bell all of Liberty. Also benefiting were Kade Broussard, Josey Scott and Hannah Wheeler all of Tarkington. Four $1,000 continuing Education Scholarships go to Ericka Humphrey of Anahuac, Catherine Till of Dayton, Kellie Neuman of East Chambers and Lesleigh Flora of Tarkington.


Farmers Market: This Saturday kicks off the first Farmers Market on the grounds of Liberty City Hall. Make plans to participate in the new Liberty Farmers Market. It’s a chance to find fresh vegetables, seasonable fruits, homemade jams and more.  For information call Debbie at (281) 635 7287.


Chambers Co. Shooting: The Chambers County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting death of a Winnie man at an Anahuac residence last Saturday. According to the sheriffs department, a 9-1-1 call Saturday afternoon sent them to the home of William Brown.  He told deputies he had been having an altercation with Joseph Barron, Jr. when the other man attacked him. Brown said he was forced to shoot Barron.  According to Chambers County Sheriff Deputy Don Houghton no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
