LISD Elections: Unofficial vote totals for Saturday’s city and school elections are in, and the Liberty school board race ended with a big surprise. Incumbent Lloyd Pierce won reelection handily with 289 votes. However, Saturday’s vote count saw the other incumbent, June Jackson, and newcomer Jeffrey Smart tied with 196 votes each. LISD Superintendent Dr. Cody Abshier said that tie triggers an automatic recount. After canvassing, if the vote count remains tied, the winner could be determined by something like a mutually agreed coin toss or by one of the two candidates withdrawing from the race. If not, then Liberty school board can order a second election. LISD trustees will meet Thursday to canvass the vote and discuss options. Trustees will also consider hiring a high school principal.

Dayton Results: The Dayton City Council will meet tonight to canvass votes from Saturday’s election. There, the voting for two open seats ended with challengers John Johnson and Dale Brown the top vote-getters. Johnson garnered 271 votes while Brown received 225. As it stands now, incumbent Greg Hayman lost his seat after getting 201 votes. Turning to the Dayton ISD race for school board Position 2, Larry Wadzeck was the winner with 423 votes to incumbent Baret Stephenson’s 230. Remember, all counts are unofficial until canvassed.

Other Election Results: The City of Hardin also had one contested race on Saturday’s ballot. In the race for Position 1, Lana Webb unofficially won with 30 votes to Jesus Lozano’s 14. Turning to the Hardin school district, Position 3 incumbent James “Bubba” Campbell won with 331 votes to challenger Wayne Stark’s 152. In the race for Hardin ISD Position 5, the most votes went to Charles Bold who got 221. Sherri Mettlen had 151, John D. Everitt 19 and Mike Rives 131.

Livestock Auction: It was another great year at the Dayton FFA Youth Livestock Auction Saturday with $216,364 in sales and add-ons. The Grand Champion Steer was raised by Chase Anderson of Dayton 4-H. Thrif-tee Food Center paid $13,200. Leighton Chachere of Dayton FFA sold the Reserve Champion Steer to Foster’s Fence for $8,400.

Obituaries: Alyssa Kaye Racki, 51, of San Augustine. Service is 1 p.m. tomorrow at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty.
