Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners met yesterday in regular session and voted to approve the transfer of 26 laptop computers not now in use from the County Clerk’s office. With yesterday’s action, those will be moved to the Liberty County Sheriffs Department. In other action, Liberty Co. Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Branch requested and received permission from County Commissioners to submit an application for 2013 Homeland Security grant funds.


Suicide: Several weeks ago the Liberty County Sheriffs Department reported Fidel Andrade, 60, inflicted knife wounds on himself and jumped in front of oncoming vehicles near his home in an apparent suicide attempt. At that time he was sent by Life Flight Air Ambulance to Herman hospital in “critical” condition. He was released approximately a week ago. Tuesday morning, Fidel Andrade was found hanging from a tree on a piece of property adjacent to his home on CR 440. Precinct #4 Justice of the Peace, Judge Barry Graves pronounced him dead and ordered an autopsy.


County Barn Burglarized: Liberty County Sheriffs Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the person or persons who broke into the Precinct 2 County Barn in Hardin last Thursday. Capt. Ken DeFoor said a hole was cut in the security fence and a welding machine was loaded onto a truck, and both were stolen. Also taken was the barn’s security recording equipment. The truck and welding machine was recovered in HarrisCounty. Anyone with information on last Thursday’s break-in at the Precinct 2 County Barn on CR 2010 is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriffs Department at (936) 336 4500.
