Pay Raises: Recent payroll adjustments by some elected county officials in favor of their employees have drawn criticism. LibertyAnimal Control Shelter: Fast work by City of Liberty Animal Controland members of the local pet adoption group resulted in a dozen dogs being saved from destruction. On Wednesday, animal control officers learned a recently added puppy had the canine parvovirus. The disease, parvo, is highly contagious and very often fatal to dogs. As a result, if the 14 other dogs being housed, were not removed, they would all have to be put down. Animal Control Officer Audra Dickerson said the local adoption group Pals of the Pound volunteers went to work getting the word out. The result is 12 of the 15 dogs were either adopted or fostered temporarily so the facility could be decontaminated. Officer Dickerson said one adult and two puppies showing symptoms of the parvovirus were put to sleep.
