Cleveland PD: An early morning traffic stop by Cleveland Police led to the seizure of more than $200,000 and a money laundering investigation. Police Captain Scott Felts said officers stopped a vehicle on U.S. 59 for speeding in the early morning hours of Monday. The driver and passenger identified themselves as residents of Pennsylvania; however discrepancies in their statements led to a search of the vehicle. Inside they found a safe that was later found to contain the cash. The names of the driver and passenger are being withheld and no charges have been filed. There is an ongoing investigation.


DWI Plea: A Liberty County man, James Haltom 44 of Rye, was sentenced to 14 years in prison as part of a plea agreement in Judge Mark Morefield’s 75th District Court on Monday. Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett said Haltom had already served a previous prison term for DWI.


Hunter Education: Hunters in Texas, born on or after September 2, 1971are required to have completed a hunter education training course prior to obtaining a hunting license. There will be a TexasParksand Wildlife Hunters Education Class this weekend at the DaytonCommunity Center. The class is tomorrow from 6to 10 p.m.and then on Saturday from 8 5 p.m.You must attend both days. Cost is $15. To register, call (281) 757 6950.


5K Run: A 5K Run for Hunger will be on Saturday April 27that the DaytonCommunity Center. The event benefits the recently opened Dayton Community Food Pantry. Although open only since November 2012, Director Joan Jones said they are already providing food for 50 people in need per month, and that number is growing. Devers Foundation Party: The Devers Education Foundation is holding a fundraiser, a Ranch Party, on Saturday April 20th.  The party will be at the Henderson’s Spindletop Ranch, just east of Devers.
