Theft Arrests: Liberty County residents looking out for their neighborhoods reportedly helped thwart two residential thefts this week. Monday around 11:30 a.m. an alert resident in the Spring Oaks Subdivision in Tarkington observed suspicious behavior on CR 2800.  Liberty County Sheriffs Department, along with officers from the Liberty Co. Constable Pct 5 and 6 departments found Jesse Ray Rogers, 19 of Cleveland hiding underneath a vacant home. He was charged with evading detention. The second incident was Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. when a woman noticed a strange truck on her grandfather’s property. A nearby sheriff’s corporal, with help again from Pct. 5 and 6 Constables, stopped that vehicle a short distance away. After finding stolen items in the trunk, James Ramsey, 25, of Cleveland was jailed for theft of property.


DaytonRain Gauge: Wereported Dayton City Council’s approval of participation in a program called the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. According to Dayton City Planning Director Lynn Barrett, a non-profit community based network of volunteers takes precipitation measurements and then enters the data online. The program is intended to accumulate as much rainfall data as possible. For information on volunteering for this rainfall reporting network, call (936) 258 2642.


Valley Players Auditions: The Valley Players, South Liberty County’s community theater group is holding auditions for their upcoming comedy production, “Legally Blonde”. They need cast members from high school age and up as well as light and sound board operators, building and painting crews, a stage manager and prompter. Auditions will be held at the Humphrey’s Burson Theatre in the same building as the Liberty Municipal Library.
