Quick Justice: It could be called quick justice. Two burglars caught in the act early last week have already entered guilty pleas and were sentenced Friday to prison by 75thDistrict Judge Mark Morefield. Jane Hemmick, 54, and Chistopher Loften, 32, were captured by Liberty police last Monday after tips from observant citizens. Friday, Jane Hemmick pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a chance for probation after serving 90 days. Assault Plea: 25-year-old Justin Sye Garrett has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing bodily injury in the 75thDistrict Court. KSHN reported a Liberty County jury failed to reach consensus in a trial late last month. At that time, Judge Morefield declared a hung jury, and the case was set to go to trial again later this month. Then, on March 8, Justin Garrett pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in a state boot camp with 10 years more probation. The charge stems from a two-vehicle wreck on December 27, 2010, that left a woman with a traumatic brain injury. Evidence showed Garrett’s blood-alcohol level was .11 – that’s above the legal limit of .08.
