Child Drowns: A family tragedy played out in the City of Liberty Saturday evening. Shortly after 7 p.m., the cry went out that a 4-year-old child was at the bottom of a backyard swimming pool on Lone Oak Lane. At the home, a party was under way to celebrate the birthday of a 16-year-old family member. After everybody got out of the pool for birthday cake, 4-year-old Kendra Clanton somehow slipped back into the water unseen. Police say they don’t believe she was in the water as much as two minutes before she was spotted. A teen pulled little Kendra from the water, and CPR was started by adults waiting for Liberty EMS. Medics worked on the child, first at the poolside then on the way to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center. Some 40 minutes later, the child was declared deceased. The child’s mother, Courtney Clanton, was also at the party at the home of the victim’s grandparents, Wes and Donna Clanton.
