Money Laundering: Liberty County Sheriff’s Department has arrested five individuals and charged them with money laundering following three separate traffic stops in the past month. In all, deputies have seized more than $380,000 in cash believed to be connected with the illegal drug trade. Captain Defoor said shortly after taking office, Sheriff Bobby Rader committed the department’s resources to target illegal drug trafficking both in and traveling through Liberty County.


Hospital District: Liberty County Hospital District Board President Bruce Stratton said talks with E.H.O.T., the company proposing a new 24-hour emergency care facility in Dayton, are moving forward, but cautiously. Mr. Stratton said information received from the company is now being distributed to members of the district and the administration of the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center and the next step would be review it in an upcoming meeting of the hospital district board. Bruce Stratton said he believes an agreement that would let them use the local hospital’s critical access designation is possible.


Need for Housing: New Dayton Community Development Corporation Executive Director Cortland Holman said one of the most difficult parts of attracting new businesses is ensuring there is enough rental housing to accommodate the employees those businesses will also attract. He said while the Dayton area has plenty of for-sale housing, there is a shortage of rental housing for those not ready to buy a home but who still need a place to live near their employment.


Business Roundtable: The Dayton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business roundtable next Thursday morning at 9:30 in the chamber office inside the Dayton Community Center. Facilitator is Justin McQueen with ADP Payroll Services. It’s an open discussion with other business owners and associates about business methods, advertising and marketing.
