Burglars: Two Liberty County men, Jacob Brandon Vest, 22 of Hardin, and Kevin Deayne Brock, 26 of Hardin received probated sentences in exchange for guilty pleas to burglary charges. They were arrested in January in connection with the burglary and theft at the 3H-Howell Ranch in Liberty County. Liberty County Sheriffs Captain Ken Defoor said a farm truck stolen from the ranch was later found abandoned in the Moss Bluff area. The investigation led to Vest and Brock. Captain Defoor said 100 % of the property stolen in the Howell burglary was recovered as well as items taken in other theft cases. Jacob Vest and Kevin Brock, pled guilty to three felony charges and were sentenced to five years probation by 75thDistrict Judge Mark Morefield.


Drive One: BJ Ford is hosting a Drive One for Your School event April 6 from 9-5 at Liberty High School. Proceeds benefit Project Graduation. Ford Motor Company will donate $20 per test drive of a new Ford vehicle, up to a total of $6,000.  There is no charge and no obligation.


Mass Casualty Drill: A number of area law enforcement agencies are participating in what’s called an active shooter response training class this week in Cleveland. As a part of that, they will have a mass casualty drill tomorrow at Cleveland High School. Cleveland ISD Chief of Police Rex Evans said this mock drill will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. To avoid confusion, Cleveland ISD Police Chief Rex Evans wants the public to know about the drill ahead of time.


Benefit: A “Welcome Home” benefit for Payge Davie is this Saturday at First Baptist Church in Dayton. The 11-year-old Dayton student has been home since early February, following more than 3 months of hospitalization and rehabilitation. The Dayton area girl continues to recover from significant brain injuries caused when she was struck by a car on her way to the school bus.
