Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners approved two agenda items relating to courthouse security. One was an $18,000 bid for a new door locking system. The second was more than $22,000 for radios to be used by courthouse security officers and court bailiffs. In addition, commissioners approved more than $384,000 in equipment purchases for Road and Bridge Precinct #1.

Burglary: The Liberty Police Department has arrested and charged two Liberty residents, Jane Hemmick, age 53, and 32-year-old Christopher Loften with Burglary of a Habitation. They were arrested following an investigation Monday morning into a burglary on Magnolia Street. Police credit local citizens for being so observant of suspicious activity and making notes of what they saw.

Grief Support Group: If you have experienced the death of a loved one and need help with the emotional pain, assistance is available through a free local support group. Patti Savage, a licensed psychotherapist, said there is a free support group the first and third Tuesday of each month in Dayton. The next session is this coming Tuesday. They meet at 6 p.m. in Community Fellowship Church, 310 North Church St. in Dayton. For information call (832) 434-3232.

Jubilee: One big attraction at the annual Liberty Jubilee celebration each year is the children’s play area featuring rides and games aimed at the youngest Jubilee visitors. The unlimited ride armbands are also back again this year. The armbands are available now at Liberty City Hall or at the Jubilee on Friday and Saturday March 22ndand 23rd. The armbands are $20 each for unlimited carnival rides and games on Friday from noon to midnight.  Once again this year, the entire Jubilee and all booths are invited to be open Friday night until midnight. Then, for unlimited rides Saturday, the armbands are also $20 each. For information on all the activities call city hall at (936) 336-3684.
