Hospital District-City of Dayton: The extensive questioning of Liberty County Hospital District officials by members of the Dayton City Council last week involved a list of 25 prepared questions about the district’s operations and finances plus additional questions. Tonight, the Dayton City Council will address two issues, hiring a special consultant to work with council on the hospital district issue and hiring an audit firm to assist in evaluation of the hospital district’s audit. 


Tax Deadline: Today is the last day for Liberty County property owners to pay their 2012 property taxes without penalty.  Taxes can be paid in person or by mail as long as the envelope is postmarked today. Payments can also be made electronically through the Liberty County web page.


Candidate Filings: On Tuesday, Troy Beasley became the first candidate to file for one of three open positions on the Liberty County Hospital District Board subject to the May 11thelection. Both incumbents up for re-election to the Liberty School Board, June Jackson and Lloyd Pierce did file for new terms Wednesday.  Dr. Luke Chachere made his run for a new term at Dayton school trustee position #1 official yesterday as well. Dayton Mayor Felix Skarpa, as expected also filed to run for a second term.


LYBS Signups: Signups are under way for Liberty Youth Baseball and Softball. It’s for boys and girls ages 5 through 14 by May 1. The easiest way to register is online. You can link there from – just look for the organization tab under local information for a link to their homepage. In person registration is Saturday at the Liberty Elementary School. Cost is $65 per player. Reduction for families with multiple children.


Jubilee: The Liberty Jubilee is ramping up preparations for this years’ March 22ndand 23rdfestival celebration. On the City of Liberty web page you can find application forms for many events with early sign up deadlines at www.kshn.comon what we call our Hot Links button on our front page.


Obituaries: Frank E. “Poncho” Gonzales, 64 of Dayton. A memorial service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
