Nichols Draws a Two: The last round of redistricting put Liberty County into Robert Nichols’ Texas Senate District 3. Just reelected to that seat last year, he is now in an unenviable position of having to run for reelection again next year. Texas senators serve four-year terms, but those terms are staggered so only half the Texas Senate office-holders run for reelection every two years. Redistricting following the 2010 Census threw that system off track, and it must be redone. Senator Nichols unluckily drew a two-year term. To make the constitutionally required staggered terms work out, Liberty County’s state senator is one of those running for office again in 2014.

DISD Wall of Fame: Time is running short to nominate someone for the Dayton ISD "Wall of Fame". Established in 1999, the "Wall of Fame" salutes special educators who have contributed to the education of youth in that district. The deadline to nominate someone for the "Wall of Fame" is this Friday. Nomination forms and criteria are available on the district’s website, in all Daytoncampus offices and at the administration building. For more information, call 258-2667.
