Fatality Case to Grand Jury: In November 2012, Dayton police reported a truck driven by Jay Green, 44, of Dayton turned into the path of an SUV on Hwy 321. The impact left Keith Somers dead at the accident scene. His 6-year-old son, Brian, died two days later at a Houston hospital. Now it appears a Liberty County Grand Jury will decide if criminal charges will be filed in connection with that crash. Dayton Police Sgt. Doug O’Quinn said he expects the case will be turned over to the Liberty County District’s Attorney’s Office for presentation to a grand jury sometime this week.

Otto Honored: State Rep. John Otto of Dayton has been honored by the non-profit group called Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA. Rep. Otto was singled out for recognition because of his longtime support of Texas CASA and the 69 local CASA programs that recruit, train and supervise volunteers to represent the best interests of children in Child Protective Services’ custody. According to Texas CASA Executive Director Vicki Spriggs, Rep, Otto is committed to ensuring a CASA volunteer for every child who needs one.
