Assault: Liberty Police report a Dayton woman was assaulted by a man she offered a ride Saturday morning. Liberty PD Officer Jennifer Bowles said the female employee of Boomerang was leaving work around 1 a.m. when she saw a man walking on Navigation Street. She offered the man a ride but once inside the vehicle the man began rifling through her possessions. Police say the driver stopped the vehicle and ordered the man to get out. That, according to police, is when the man attacked the woman, hitting her in the face and head. Police say the victim managed to call them on her cell and her attacker fled. Liberty police ask anyone with information to call (936) 336-5666.

Scam Warning: Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett’s office has received a report from a Dayton woman who got a call from someone claiming to be an official with Publisher’s Clearing House. The caller told the local resident she had won $3 million. Then asked her to send $2,600 to cover fees associated with processing that winning prize. That’s not how Publisher’s Clearing House or any other honest group awards prize money. A reminder – experts say you should never give out personal information to someone who contacts you. That information should only be given to trusted organizations or businesses and only then when you contact them.

GOP Party Meeting: Another reminder, the first Liberty County Republican Party meeting for 20-13 is this evening at 7 p.m. and the pubic is invited. According to County GOP Chair Ken Coleman, the meeting will be held at the Justice of the Peace Courtroom of Barry Graves in the courthouse annex on FM 1960 in Dayton.
