Cleveland Rape Case: Another adult suspect in the notorious Cleveland gang rape case has pleaded guilty. According to court records, Cedric Deray Scott admitted to aggravated sexual assault last Friday before 75th District Court Judge Mark Morefield. He also pleaded guilty to a non-related possession of a controlled substance charge plus evading arrest. Judge Morefield sentenced Cedric Scott to 15 years in prison on the sexual assault charge, 15 years for possession and 2 years for evading. Those sentences will run concurrently.


Tax Deductions Extended: When Congress cut a deal to avoid falling off the so-called “fiscal cliff”, a number of federal income tax deductions that would have expired January 1 have been extended through 2013. Local CPA Byron Swaim said among those tax breaks that are once again available for 2012 federal tax returns are the above-the-line teacher deduction, an energy conversation deduction and the child adoption tax credit. DISD Wall of Fame: Nominations are being accepted for the Dayton ISD Wall of Fame. The deadline for nominating a former professional employee of the Dayton school district to be included in the Wall of Fame is February 1. To be eligible, nominees must have been a professional employee, including administrators, teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses. These special people must have been either retired or not been employed in Dayton for five years prior to their induction. Nomination forms are available on the district website and on each campus plus the administration building. MLK Celebration: Mark your calendars - Liberty County’s 15th Annual Martin Luther King Jr Celebration is Saturday, January 19. It will be held at 1 p.m. in Mount Rose Baptist Church, 808 Washington Street in Liberty. Keynote speaker is Dayton High School Principal Travis Young.
