Property Rendition: Business owners are reminded to file their 2012 personal business property rendition forms with the Liberty County Central Appraisal District Office. The law requires a rendition of all personal property owned by the business be submitted by April 15th. Liberty County Deputy Chief Appraiser Lana McCarty said a list of all property that is leased to the business should also be included. Mrs. McCarty said the most common mistake business owners make is forgetting to submit the personal business property rendition. For more information call (936) 336-5722 or (936) 257-8395.


New Sheriff: At midnight Monday, Bobby Rader went from being long time Justice of the Peace to the new Liberty County Sheriff. Issuing the oath to the county’s new top police official was Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 – Ronnie Davis, who now begins his own thirtieth year as JP. The longest serving elected official holding office in Liberty County. After officially becoming sheriff, Bobby Rader than administered the oath to the men and women he has chosen as leaders under his command plus many of the rank and file deputies in his department.


Taxes and You: Local Certified Public Accountant Byron Swaim said the United States cannot get its fiscal house in order while the national debt continues to grow. He said while the U.S. Congress works to come up with a last minute plan to stave off tax increases and spending cuts, Byron Swaim said he doesn’t see any real financial good for the nation coming out of that plan. The CPA said in his opinion whatever small tax increases or spending decreases do get approved, neither will be enough to do the job. Liberty C.P.A. Swaim said unlike other countries, there is no one who can bail out America if federal spending continues as it is.


Swearing In: The official oath of office ceremony for elected officials is this morning at 10 a.m. in the 75thDistrict Courtroom on the third floor of the Liberty County Courthouse. The public is welcome to attend.


Obituaries: Clifford  L. Strickland, 88 of Dayton. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pace Stancil Funeral Service in Dayton.
