Hospital District: Liberty County Hospital District Board President Bruce Stratton commenting on Monday’s Dayton City Council discussion on the possibility of withdrawing from the Liberty County Hospital District, said he would like to make a firm commitment to locating an urgent care facility in Dayton. However the financial means to back up that promise does not presently exist. Mr. Stratton said any talk of building a new hospital in Liberty, Dayton or anywhere else, is just that – talk. He said the hospital district’s main focus is still on getting the Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center out of debt. Liberty County Hospital District President Bruce Stratton said building a new hospital, of any size or at any location is still in the future.


LISD Audit: Liberty Independent School District trustees were presented with the 2011-2012 annual fiscal year audit on Tuesday. The auditor provided the district with what is called an unqualified opinion. That means the district’s records are complete and include accurate disclosures that comply with standard accounting practices and procedures.


Closed: Thecity offices in Liberty,Dayton and Cleveland will be closed both Monday and Tuesday of next week for Christmas. The Liberty County Courthouse will also be closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Most banks and all post offices will also be closed but Tuesday only.  Local post offices – with the exception of the Batson Post Office – will close at noon on Monday. Waste Management Garbage Service will not run on Tuesday, in Cleveland, Liberty or Dayton, but will resume on the next scheduled service day.


Mike Little Reception: A retirement reception honoring retiring District Attorney Mike Little will be held in the 75thDistrict Courtroom, Liberty County Courthouse, on January 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
