Deputy Involved Shooting: A 51-year old Liberty County man, Jimmy Hutchins, is facing charges of attempted capital murder of a peace officer following an officer-involved shooting yesterday morning on CR 2342 north of Dayton. A Liberty County Deputy responded to an animal cruelty call shortly after midnight yesterday. According to DPS Public Information Officer, Trooper Eric Burse, the suspect shouldered his rifle and that’s when the deputy shot, striking Hutchins in the leg. At last report, Trooper Burse said Hutchins was in fair condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower leg. The name of the deputy is not being released. The incident is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.

Fire: A home being rented by Chance Abshire on Highway 321 north of Dayton was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning. Mr. Abshire said he was awakened by his brother who was staying with him, shouting that the house was on fire. The two men barely escaped before the roof collapsed inward.  While Chance Abshire and his brother escaped the blaze, his dogs did not.
