Legislative Priorities: The 83rdsession of the Texas Legislature convenes in January. Among the many issues that will be confronting lawmakers are four singled out by State Representative John Otto as major concerns. He said first and foremost is the state budget. Education funding is next. Representative Otto said finding revenue to fund both the state’s water plan and for new highway construction are also going to be priority legislative issues in the coming session.

Vandeventer Benefit: There are a sporting clays, barbecue sandwich and raffle fundraising benefit for Chris Vandeventer tomorrow at Clay Mound Sporting Center in Liberty. Chris is a 29 year old Liberty resident who needs another kidney transplant. He underwent a transplant at the age of 16 to replace his that were destroyed by bacteria. Chris has that special gifted kidney for 13 years before his body began rejecting the transplanted organ. Now he is on dialysis 8 hours every night and has been in and out of the hospital for the last two years, resulting in lots of medical bills and associated expenses. Hardin All-State: A Hardin senior has been named to the All State Team by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Katelyn Barker has been chosen to play in the T.G.V.A. All-State Volleyball game in Austin on July 11th. The Hardin girls won the District 25-2A Championship in volleyball this year.

Drive One: BJ Ford and Ford Motor Company are hosting “Drive One for the Foster Children” tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For every test drive of a new Ford vehicle, Ford will donate $20 to Liberty County Children’s Protective Services to make Christmas merrier for kids in foster care locally.
