Deel Resigns: Liberty School Trustees unanimously accepted the resignation of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Shane Deel during a specially called meeting Monday night. Currently Shane Deel’s contract extends through the 2013-2014 school year. As part of the mutual agreement, the district will buy-out the remaining part of Deel’s contract for a lump sum of $30,000. Shane Deel’s last official day is January 15th, however Superintendent Cody Abshier said the coach will be on leave through that date and will not return to the campus.

Churches: It has been a holiday tradition for many years at two local churches to provide free Thanksgiving dinners to anyone who wants ones one. St. Miles Baptist Church in Ames has been sharing their Thanksgiving by offering free turkey and fixings for about six years. The folks at Trinity Valley Baptist Church will open their doors again this year, on Thanksgiving Day with dinner served to one and all. Both will begin serving at 11 a.m. Trinity Valley Baptist serving time is until 1 p.m. while St. Miles continues until 3 p.m.

HolidayCooking Safety: Liberty County Extension Agent Alexis Cordova reminds cooks that a meat thermometer should be used even if the bird has one of those pop-up versions. Also experts say the internal temperature of the turkey should be at least 165 degrees while the internal temperature of a ham must reach at least 160 degrees to destroy harmful bacteria that might be present.

Closed: The city offices in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. The Liberty County Courthouse will close at noon today and remain closed until Monday. Most banks and all post offices will be closed Thursday only. Waste Management garbage service will not run on Thursday. Trash pick up will resume on the next scheduled service day.

Football: Both the Houston Texans and the University of Texas Longhorns are in holiday action tomorrow. The Texans take on the Lions in Detroit. Kick off is 11:30 a.m. The UT Longhorns host the T.C.U. Hornforgs Thanksgiving night with a 6:30 p.m. kick off. Both games can be heard here on KSHN.
