Rader on Sheriff’s Post: When Bobby Rader takes the reins at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department in January, he will be facing some of the same challenges as any newly elected sheriff. Among his priorities, Rader said he will focus on training, morale and equipment. The sheriff-elect said that training will include courtroom preparation, ethics and emergency disasters. Another priority will be addressing the recent problems with the department’s fuel budget.


Drive One for Foster Kids: BJ Ford and Ford Motor Company are hosting a “Drive One for Foster Children” on Saturday, December 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at BJ Ford on Highway 90 in Liberty. As in past “Drive One” events, Ford will donate $20 for every test drive of a new Ford vehicle. This time, those donations go to Liberty County Children’s Protective Services to make Christmas merrier for kids in Foster Care here in Liberty County. Playoff Football: Among the local high school teams advancing to the area round of the state playoffs are Barbers Hill, Hull-Daisetta, Crosby and East Chambers. Friday night, the Barbers Hill Eagles shut-out Livingston 31-0. Now, the Eagles face Elgin this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Woodforest Stadium in the Woodlands. Hull-Daisetta had a first round bye and will take on Alto this Friday at 2 p.m. in Lufkin’s Abe Martin Stadium. You can hear both the Barbers Hill and Hull-Daisetta playoff games on using the Teamline link at the bottom of the home page. In other action from the Bi-District round of the state playoffs, Nederland knocked off Dayton 21-7. East Chambers topped Troup 24-17. Crosby downed Beaumont Ozen 22-15 in overtime. It was West Orange Stark over Cleveland 57-0. White Oak rolled over Anahuac 52-15 while Silsbee downed Huffman-Hargraves 54-21.
