Dayton Hospital Concerns: At their meeting Monday night, Dayton City Council decided against offering some four acres of land to the Liberty County Hospital District as a potential site for a new hospital facility. Dayton City Manager David Douglas proposed that incentive offer but also suggested a hospital district funded emergency care clinic for Dayton. Dayton Mayor Felix Skarpa said many Dayton citizens feel they are not getting enough from the hospital district for their tax dollars. Mayor Skarpa said he and City Manager David Douglas plan to meet with the elected hospital district board members to discuss these possibilities.    


Golden Celebration: The public is invited to help Stephen F. Austin Elementary in Dayton celebrate a half century of education. The SFA 50th Anniversary Celebration is Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m., and former staff, former students and the community are invited. The celebration will include a 60s style sock hop and refreshments reminiscent of that era. It’s all free.


Football: It’s the final week of the high school football regular season, and the Dayton Broncos and Hull-Daisetta Bobcats are both battling for district championships. In Dayton, it’s the battle of the unbeatens as the Broncos welcome the Summer Creek Bulldogs. Kickoff is 7 tonight. The Liberty Panthers travel to Tarkington to take on the Longhorns today at 7:30 p.m. It’s Hardin versus East Chambers kicking off at 7:30 in Winnie. The Hull-Daisetta Bobcats travel to Colmesneil to face the Bulldogs at 7 this evening. Barbers Hill is at home against New Caney. Kickoff is 7 tonight.
