Fire: A forgotten pot on a stove caused a small fire at the home Sandra Hughes at 603 Texas St. in Liberty yesterday afternoon.

Sales Taxes: It was another strong month countywide as October sales tax payments to cities across Liberty County rose 17.08 % as compared to the same month last year. Only the City of Ames experienced a decrease for October. Sales tax payments across the county remain up 7.25 percent for the entire year of 2012. That compares to a larger 8.1 percent statewide increase year-to-date for all cities across the Lone Star State.

Political Forums: Tomorrow, KSHN Radio begins another series of political candidate forums on the 8:30 a.m. Partyline Program. Wednesday morning the candidates for Liberty County Commissioner Precinct #3 in the November 6thGeneral Election will be featured. Democrat incumbent Melvin Hunt and Republican Eddie C. Lowery have confirmed they will be here to talk about their candidacies.

Drill Team Recruiting: The state champion Liberty County 4-H Mounted Drill Team is recruiting new members. Kids interested in participating in this renowned horseback riding organization are invited to attend the club’s annual kick-off business meeting tonight at 7 in the Liberty County Extension Service’s Office on Palmer Street in Liberty. The club is open to kids between the ages of 9 and 18 as of September 1, 2012. Positions are available for novice horse enthusiasts as well as experienced riders, but participants must have a horse with negative coggins test. Early Voting Correction: Early voting for the November 6 General Election started yesterday. There will be special hours this coming Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at four locations – the Liberty County Courthouse, Cleveland Courthouse Annex, Hardin City Hall and Dayton Community Center.
