VOLUME 27, NO. 200 MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2012

Early Voting: Early voting for the November 6 General Election starts today. There are local, state and national contests on the ballot, including president of the United States. Early voting will continue weekdays through November 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at four locations – the Liberty County Courthouse, Cleveland Courthouse Annex, Hardin City Hall and Dayton Community Center. There will be special hours this coming Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all four location. For more election information, call the Liberty County Clerk’s Office at 936-336-4670.

TVE Auction: This year’s TVE Youth Livestock Auction sales were way up from last year, with the total accumulated by Auctioneer Ed Phillips providing a solid payday for the hardworking kids of Liberty and Chambers counties. Just the grand and reserve champions brought in a total of $95,450, up from $54,838 last year. The Grand Champion Market Steer, owned for the second year in a row by Garrett Villiemez of Anahuac, was sold for $10,000 to Raywood Livestock Auction. The Reserve Champion Steer was shown by Barbers Hill FFA’s Rhett Wilson. Encino Landscaping and Choctaw Ranch paid the high bid of $7,000. At the end of Friday’s TVE Youth Livestock Auction, sales totalled $291,086, which is $73,696 more than last year’s total. That is without add-ons, and those could mean a notable increase in the final auction sales numbers.

TVE Queen: The new 2012 Rodeo Queen was crowned for the 104th Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo during Thursday night’s festivities. This year’s queen is 16-year-old Casey Anderson, a junior at Dayton High School.

Chamber Lunch: The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon is Wednesday in the Liberty Center at Liberty City Hall. This month’s luncheon will feature Jamie Galloway, emergency management coordinator for Nassau Bay. He will be speaking on the joint effort by area emergency responders to plan and combine skills to coordinate moving the huge replica of the space shuttle into the Nassau Bay area. Tony’s BBQ will cater Wednesday’s $10 a plate lunch. For reservations, call the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber in Liberty at 936-336-5736 or in Dayton at 257-8926.
