TVE Country Weekend: The 103rd Trinity Valley Exposition is almost here. Friday night and all day Saturday is the annual TVE Country Weekend with lots of activities to get everybody warmed up for the coming week’s TVE Fair and Rodeo. Starting tomorrow, barbecue cook-off teams will be setting up. The “42” Dominoes Tournament and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament are both Friday night. The TVE Baby Parade is Saturday morning at 10 in downtown Liberty. Then, a variety of activities continue throughout the day Saturday at the fairgrounds on FM 563. Saturday night is the TVE Concert Dance headlined by country music great Wade Bowen. For information on all things TVE, call the fairgrounds at 936-336-7455.


Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners met yesterday and heard a presentation on the proposed Liberty County section of the Grand Parkway around the greater Houston area. TxDot Executive Director Phil Wilson said there are 37.3 miles of the parkway planned for Liberty County from Highway 59 in the north to I-10 on the south.


Trail Blazing: Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge is encouraging volunteers to take part in establishing a system of primitive nature trails connecting Liberty Municipal Park with the wildlife refuge. The refuge is partnering with the City of Liberty on the project called “From Crosswalks to Boardwalks”. The first phase of the trail construction is this Saturday at 9 a.m. at the park. Volunteers should be prepared to blaze a nature trail with tools and outdoor clothes. For information, call the Trinity River Refuge at 936-336-9786.


Bird Club: The Lower Trinity Valley Bird Club will hold its monthly meeting Saturday at 10 a.m. in First Liberty National Bank’s new community room called FLNB Corner. That’s across from the main bank at 1822 Sam Houston in Liberty. Guest speakers are Mark Waters and Mike Knight with Trinity River Authority. They will focus on a variety of topics, including water quality, recreation and reservoir operations. For more, call club president Gary Holmes at 281-576-0574.
