Fire: City of Liberty firefighters went from one fire to another Wednesday evening. Shortly before 6 p.m., Liberty FD personnel went to a vehicle fire on Hwy 90. Once that fire was out, firefighters were called to the 2100 block of North Main St. where a trailer home was fully engulfed. Fire Chief Fred Collins said it was a volunteer that noticed the blaze as he was driving by. Chief Collins said the trailer home was gutted and nearby vehicles were damaged. No one was hurt.


D.C.D.C: We have already reported on the firing of Dayton Community Development Corporation Executive Director Chris Potter. D.C.D.C. Attorney Mike Fielder said Mr. Potter was fired after a directive by the D.C.D.C. board on how to improve relations with Dayton city employees were not followed. In fact, the employees that wrote letters of complaint were contacted by an attorney hired by Mr. Potter demanding a retraction of their statements or face the possibility of a law suit.


Dayton Homecoming Court: Candidates for 2012 Dayton High School Homecoming Queen are Madeline Hicks, Hannah Dale, and Alexis Bossett.  Homecoming queen will be crowned during half-time at tonight’s game.


Football: The Hull-Daisetta Bobcats take on the Galveston-O’Connell Buccaneers in a non-district match up tonight with a 7 p.m. kick off. The Hardin Hornets travel to Anahuac to take on the Panthers in a District 10-2A contest. That game gets under way at 7:30. Its homecoming for the Barbers Hill Eagles as they host the Humble Wildcats in a 7 p.m. game. The Liberty Panthers go just down the road to take on the Huffman-Hargrave Falcons, and the Dayton Broncos play their homecoming game against the Kingwood Park Panthers. Liberty kicks off at 7:30 while the Broncos take to the field at 7 p.m. To listen to the Bobcats, Hornets or Eagles go online to and click on the mascot of your choice.
