Bob Jamison: J.R. Bob Jamison, 82 passed away at home outside Dayton Monday after a six month illness. Born and raised in Dayton, Bob Jamison was Chairman of the Board of Dayton State Bank, a 60 year member of the Masonic lodge, 25 year member of the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department. Bob Jamison was a former member of Dayton City Council and in 1991 was the Liberty Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year”. He was also an author and columnist. A memorial service for J.R. Bob Jamison will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 at First United Methodist Church-Dayton.


Pep Rally: The Dayton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a community pep rally this Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Woodrow Wilson Junior High parking lot. There will be musical performances and contests. A portion of the proceeds go to scholarships for 2013 Dayton Graduates. To find out more, call the Dayton Chamber at (936) 257-2393.


Wells Sells: One of the oldest continuously operated businesses in Liberty County has been sold and the family line of ownership has ended. Colonel Kirk Gibson, a battalion command officer in the U.S. Army Reserve and long time funeral director is the new owner of Well’s Funeral Home on Alabama St. in Liberty. When the funeral home changed hands a few days ago, it was owned by Jennifer Hamilton, granddaughter of the original owners, Luther and Stella Wells, Sr.


Kenefick Kountry Weekend: The 5th Annual Kenefick Kountry weekend is this Friday and Saturday. There will be a BBQ cook off, baking contest, raffle and a dance. Proceeds go to building renovations and yearly support of the Kenefick Civic Center. For information call (936) 258-0455.
