MORE DAYTON CITY COUNCIL  02/22/2010

AT THEIR MEETING LAST TUESDAY, THE DAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVED USING A STIMULUS GRANT OF $140,000 TO PURCHASE FOUR NEW POLICE VEHICLES FOR THE DAYTON POLICE DEPARTMENT. POLICE CHIEF PETE DOUZAT (DOZIER) TOLD COUNCIL THE GRANT DID NOT REQUIRE MATCHING FUNDS FROM THE CITY, BUT THE PURCHASE NEEDED TO BE MADE BY THE CITY WITH THE GRANT FUNDS COMING FROM THEIR REIMBURSEMENT. DAYTON COUNCIL MEMBERS LAUDED THE DAYTON POLICE CHIEF FOR HIS SUCCESS IN GETTING THIS AND SIMILAR GRANTS TO PAY FOR POLICE VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT WHILE SAVING THE CITY FROM FOOTING THE BILL FOR THOSE IMPORTANT ITEMS. AT THAT SAME MEETING TUESDAY, DAYTON CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS APPROVED CHIEF DOUZAT’S REQUEST OF A SECOND GRANT TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR ADDITIONAL POLICE VEHICLES. IN OTHER ACTION, THE DAYTON COUNCIL APPROVED AN AMENDMENT TO THE BYLAWS OF THE DAYTON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. THE CHANGE WAS AT THE REQUEST OF COUNCIL MEMBER JAY KNIGHT WHO ALSO SERVES AS PRESIDENT OF THE DCDC BOARD. MR. KNIGHT FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT THE BYLAWS BE CHANGED TO ALLOW ADVISORY MEMBERS TO THE DCDC BOARD TO PARTICIPATE IN EXECUTIVE OR CLOSED DOOR SESSIONS WITH THE FULL BOARD SO THEY COULD REMAINE FULLY INFORMED OF ALL ASPECTS OF DCDC BUSINESS. COUNCIL AGREED AND APPROVED THE CHANGE.
