the 12th annual martin luther king jr celebration will be saturday, january 16, at 1 p.m. at st. john baptist church on north main in liberty. this year’s speaker will be the rev. keith turner sr. he is a liberty high school graduate and pastor of valley community baptist church of liberty. dr. henry l dugat sr. – chairman of this local martin luther king jr. celebration COMMITTEE - said this year’s theme is "we’ve come this far by faith."

this year’s celebration will include awards, music and praise dancing. in a related note - the local mlk committee awards an annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from one of liberty County’s six high schools. dr. dugat said with the most recent scholarship presentation to hull-daisetta graduate mary eaglin, this committee has now awarded a scholarship to a student from every high school in the county. again, the liberty county martin luther king jr celebration committee will hold its 12th annual celebration at 1 p.m. january 16 at st. john baptist church – 3709 north main in liberty. for information, call dr. henry dugat at 936-336-7393 or martha braxton at 936-336-6601.
