lml expansion news story 01.15.09 we have reported the liberty MUNICIPAL library is TEMPORARILY closed through early february as part of the expansion and renovation project under way at the GERALDINE d. humphrey’s cultural center. the estimated three-week closure started january 18 to allow construction crews access to tear down an interior wall and make other needed changes. library director dana (donna) abshier says that work is going well. "audio" while the construction work is taking place, the veteran librarian said the library staff is conducting an inventory. "audio" during this three-week closing, patrons may still return books to the outside book drop, and videos may be placed in the foyer video return. the library staff will renew book loans by telephone or on-line. they also will mail out tax preparation forms. as kshn has already reported, the ongoing expansion project will double the size of the Humphreys Cultural Center. the work will enlarge the Liberty Municipal Library by 8,035 square feet on the first floor and 3,320 square feet on the second floor. In ADDITION, an elevator is being added. here’s more - they are adding 3,410 square feet of storage area to the Humphreys-Burson Theatre, which is also getting a makeover. again, liberty MUNICIPAL library director dana ABSHIRE said work is progressing rapidly on the renovation work that forced the library to close TEMPORARILY. if all goes according to plan, the liberty library will reopen about feb. 8. for information or to renew books by phone, call the liberty library at 936-336-8901. |
